Professional Pictures

Nathan's "school" brings in professional photographers about twice a year. Since he's been going there for almost two years, he's had a few chances to pose. To date, he's been either too upset to even sit for the camera or teary-eyed in the pictures. This latest time Nathan wasn't too afraid of the photographer, and actually made it through three poses without crying. However, as you can see, he was a bit wary... We're thinking that the first picture is one to save to show his friends or for his wedding to embarrass him a little.

Classic poopy look

A bit skeptical... Crayons are not supposed to be this big!

Finally a better shot, although Nathan is still not smiling. Perhaps we should take him to a photographer ourselves for a chance of a smile...

Nathan's first (OK, third...) haircut

Betsy gave Nathan his first haircut in December and did a reprise in March. Today was round 3, and I took him to SuperCuts. We started talking about it last night, and he got very excited. He even woke up and began talking about it right away. But shortly before we hit the road he started frowning and saying "no haircut". After a little negotiation, we hit the road and stopped by Dunkin Donuts to get some treats (Nathan played it safe and got a 7-grain wheat bagel; I got my usual iced mocha latte and a real dougnut...). By the time we got to SuperCuts Nathan was excited about getting his hair cut, and he was so good the whole time! He was shy - he just looked down, kept quiet, and wanted me to hold his hand :-) But, to my pleasant surprise, he didn't whine or scream at all.

Here are a few before, during, and after photos from today:

Firetrucks are also pretty high on Nathan's list...

On Saturday we took Nathan to a birthday party for one of his friends who's turning 3 this week. The key event was a trip to the small town's fire station, and Nathan loved it! Usually he's pretty shy in front of people he hasn't been with at least a dozen times, but he couldn't resist asking the first firefighter we met to help him get inside the firetruck.

"Betsy!!"

What does Nathan love these days? Mommy, who he recently started calling 'Betsy' or 'Betsy Colby Davie', is definitely at the top of the list. Last night Nathan and I were driving to Chipotle's to meet up with Betsy, and the whole way Nathan kept yelling 'Betsy' and smiling :-) I'd respond by saying 'are we going to have dinner with mommy?', but he decided to stick with 'Betsy'.

I'm optimistic that I (sometimes called 'daddy Colby Davie') am a close second place. He has said Chris a few times, but not nearly as much as he says Betsy.

Nathan is also pretty attached to his toy bus. He's been having fun on the Tumble Bus at daycare every Tuesday, and a few nights ago he asked to have his toy bus in the crib with him. Now the bus is added to his list of crib necessities (his blanket, baba, that we bought at H&M about 6 months before he was born; the Elmo book passed down from his cousin Lauren; "my pillow"; and the musical giraffe).

Nathan is also pretty addicted to playing inside the cars. So much so that it's hard to get him to go inside - even when it's time for dinner! You know he must love the cars if he'll choose them in place of eating :-)

And alas, the potty has just made it to the bottom of Nathan's list...
